Having a tidy and clean home can be challenging, especially with children running around all day! All Spruced Up Cleaning Co has four tips you can implement in your home to create a more stress-free and tidy environment!

1. Declutter, Declutter, Declutter!!

"A great summer project is to start by picking the 3 rooms in your home that could use some sprucing up. Tackle one room each day. (be sure to write it down, have a goal in mind, and put it on your schedule/calendar!!!)  Start by looking around and getting rid of things that no longer hold its purpose to you. For example, toys that the children have outgrown. These can be put aside in a bin and donated, brought to a local shelter, donated to a local daycare, or sold at a local consignment shop. This can go for clothes as well. Declutter those "pile areas" I call them. The areas that just collect "things" that you have yet to designate proper spaces for. Clear out closets to create new spaces for the items you plan on keeping in your home.

Examples of things we may no longer need but tend to keep: Old books/papers/magazines, toys that are not ever played with or are broken, past gifts that we feel bad for getting rid of (its okay!!) Excess amount of one thing (cups/lotions/fragrances/papers, cords that you have NO IDEA what they go to but keep anyways, etc) Unmatched clothing (socks or shoes) Old clothes that you haven't worn in years! This also includes jackets and other outerwear. Pick your room, Start in one corner and work your way into a circle. Be sure to clean out drawers and closets along the way too. Place the items that need new homes in the middle of the room. Decluttering is not a one-time thing! This is a process that is ongoing as long as you are bringing new items into your home. I like to keep a container tucked away in a closet. When an item that is in good shape but is no longer serving its purpose or needed, I will place it in the bin and close the lid. Once the bin is completely full I will take it to the Salvation Army."

2. Find Homes For Each Item and Follow a System

"Now that the decluttering is completed, it's time to find new homes for things! This is where bins, organizing cubes, plastic containers and closet organizers come in handy! Even though we all desire to have the "Pinterest" look, don't be afraid to just use what you have. Be sure to categorize things so it is easier to find them when needed (tools, kids craft items, mail/bills, medicines, etc). We also recommend keeping the items that are used on a daily basis to be easily accessible! Make the systems so easy that even the kids can help with cleaning up! We LOVE these organizing cubes cubes from Target. Buy fun colored cubes and categorize types of toys in each bin, It makes it more fun for the kids to clean-up. For example, you can say okay let's put the dinosaurs in the blue bin, the cars in the orange. Over time they will begin to remember where each type of toy is stored! This system created a more calm play environment for the children. They won't be begging you to find their favorite toy that they lost the day before!"

3. Have your family help you!! Find your WHO for certain tasks!

"As parents, we often try to carry the world on our shoulders. We often found ourselves asking how the heck are we supposed to get all of x,y and z done today!? Our last tip to keeping a more tidy home is being able to find WHO can help you. Children often thrive in an environment where they are helping and involved. This gives them a sense of importance and teaches them new skills. With a little bit of patience, letting our children help with daily chores can ultimately lessen our daily burden of the mountain sized to-do list! It may be hard at first to let the control of having things perfect go, but over time your children will get better and better at it. This list of age appropriate chores/tasks comes in handy. I like to keep them on our fridge! Chores By Age Group."
