Weekly Programs

Weekly programs will be in the mix. Some are still being planned.

Book Banter Chat -Every Wednesday at 4:00 PM on Facebook, two librarians will discuss and deconstruct a work of Young Adult fiction, digging into character development, plot points, point of view etc., and give you a thumbs up or down.

“Community Cooking” – Join librarians each week as they tackle family favorite recipes.  Follow us @LibraryMahoningCounty on Facebook and Instagram for more information.

“Family Game Night” – Can you beat your fellow community members at Scategories?  Boggle? Emoji Book Titles?  Join the fun to find out.  Follow us @LibraryMahoningCounty on Facebook and Instagram for more information

Fiber Arts Live! – Join our crafty librarians Wednesdays at 11:00 AM on Facebook as they chat about everything related to Fiber Arts crafts.

Instagram Weekly Photo Challenge – Share your Shelfie on Instagram, a photo of you with your book shelf,  and use the hashtags #PLYMCweekly and #PLYMCanywhere to join the community challenge. Posted every Sunday on Instagram.

Monday Bilingual Storytime Live! – Join some of your librarians on Facebook every Monday at 7:00 PM as they share songs, stories, crafts and more each week.  Stories will be shared in English and Spanish.

Monday Mashup – This weekly Facebook chat on Mondays at 4:00 PM is your chance to geek out and defend your favorite fandoms. Each week, we’ll share a question about a fandom and ask you to defend your position.

Saturday Night Stories  – Listen if you dare! Join us every Saturday at 8:30 p.m. on Facebook as PLYMC Librarians read selections from some of the scariest books ever written. Please note: Saturday Night Scares are scary stories for adults, and brave teens.  Stories contain mature themes, and may not be suitable for a younger audience. 

Tech Time Live Chat – Join us every Friday on Facebook at 4:00 PM for Tech Time Live Chat. Ms. Carla from PLYMC will offer tech tips and helpful resources for your gadgets and devices.

Teen Reads Live Video – Tuesdays and Saturday at 3:00 PM, tune into Facebook to see teens from Project Lit Youngstown and the Teen Advisory Board read chapters from a Young Adult book.

Thursday Storytime and ASL Live! – Join some of your librarians on Facebook every Thursday at 11:00 AM as they share songs, stories, crafts and more each week.  Stories will be shared in English and American Sign Language each week.


First Chapter

“First Chapter” calls provide an opportunity for tweens to hear the first chapter of a book by calling 330-259-3394. Patrons can finish reading the book through our Hoopla app or borrow through Curbside Pickup, where and a craft or STEAM activity related to the book can also be included.  Crafts can be requested by calling the Library at 330-259-3399.

A new First Chapter book and craft will be offered every Monday throughout Summer Discovery. The featured books for June are:

June 1 – The Castle Mystery by Gertrude Chandler Warner – Craft: catapult
June 8 – The Cat’s Meow by Herman Parish – Craft: woven paper cat
June 15 – Ivy & Bean: Doomed to Dance by Annie Barrows – Craft: crab
June 22 – Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp by Philip Smith – Craft: magical bottle


Storyline

Hear a Story at 330-259-3393. Call and listen to one of our librarians read your children a story each week.

The story changes every Friday at noon., so feel free to email programmingdepartment@libraryvisit.org if you have reading suggestions.
