Balls, ramps, jumps, loops- and physics fun! VELOCITY

New temporary exhibit opening at OH WOW!

By Leann Rich February 5, 2020

YOUNGSTOWN – OH WOW!’s newest temporary exhibit, Velocity, is designed to teach the basics of physics. The exhibit will be running February 8, 2020 through late May and invites children and adults to roll golf balls on tracks, loops and hills to experiment with momentum, friction, gravity, acceleration, speed and distance. The primary goal of the exhibit is to get kids to explore the science of motion.

“Velocity features five distinct activity areas that will remind you of skate parks, half-pipes and mountain climbs as they demonstrate trajectory, velocity and momentum of moving objects,” said Colleen Ruby, Director of Operations at OH WOW!. Throughout the exhibit, kids and accompanying adults experiment with designing their own freestyle ramps, checking out three unique launching machines and using data visualization software to compare results of multiple test runs.

“We are lucky enough to have this exhibit for the up and coming field trip season. It will be a great addition to our permanent exhibits in preparation for students of up and coming state testing. Any group interested in visiting while Velocity is in house should contact our front desk for more information,” Ruby said.
