On August 9, 2019, Youngstown will host the first Children’s Entrepreneur Business Fair in the Food Court of 20 W. Federal Street, Youngstown. The businesses will be open from 9 AM to 3 PM. Children ages 6-17 will be selling their products.
In order to prepare, Junior Achievement provided lessons for school-aged students, (K-12) on how to create a business plan utilizing the entrepreneurial curriculum which introduced students to the essential elements of a practical business plan and then the challenges of starting an entrepreneurial venture while still school. Attendees learned about advertising, competitive advantages, financing, marketing, and product development.
Darla Brown-Dunlap organized the program. Darla is a former business owner of a seasonal catering and gift basket store. She explains her interest in the business fair, “I found the children business fair after researching ideas and programs to present to students during the summer months. I am very involved in the Youngstown community through various community organizations.”
By combining the national support of the Acton Children Business Fair with the curriculum from the local Junior Achievement office, students will have the opportunity to learn firsthand what it takes to run their own business. The Acton Children’s Business Fair is a free program offered to entrepreneurial families.
