I had the opportunity to take a tour of The Walnut Grove playground with board member Corey Patrick. The playground just completed phase two of their construction plans and has added some awesome new play areas. The all-volunteer board has hit a home run with this venue, the playground was bustling with activity!
From the Walnut Grove Website:
"What was once an empty wetland has been transformed into the area’s first all-inclusive playground. In 2013, a group of residents and business leaders formed The Walnut Grove – Field of Opportunity nonprofit organization to create a place where people of all ages and abilities could come together in fun and friendship.
Years of hard work and fundraising paid off in Spring 2018 when the Hine Memorial Fund Playground was installed. It is the first of many accessible attractions that will serve children and families on this Field of Opportunity.
In addition to the one-acre playground, the property currently includes natural walking paths and access to the Mill Creek MetroParks Bikeway."
Phase two of the playground includes the Imagination Station with pretend play areas including an ice cream shop, bank, and fire truck; a swing zone with seats for kids of all ages and abilities; a sand and nature play section with climbing rocks; and a zip line and "we go round" which is a merry go round accessible to wheelchairs.
